Comfort, Accessibility, and Clinical Considerations
Comfort
The Vertical Grand Dive is unique from the other horizontal portable hyperbaric chambers models in our line. Its unique to the industry vertical orientation allows the placement of a chair inside of the chamber. This unique feature allows individuals to sit up comfortably to read, write, or work on devices such as laptops while undergoing hyperbarics. Without a chair inside, It is large enough to accommodate an adult and either one or two young children to sit at the base of the hyperbaric chamber. The largest concern for comfort in multi-person treatments is heat accumulation from body heat and humidity generated from each additional patient. Although much may be accomplished through controlling the temperature and humidity of the treatment room, using an inline cooling system for the air compressors, and careful consideration of the garments one wears; there is a point at which too much body heat in a confined area builds up beyond the control of the users.
Accessibility
This chamber was designed with the idea of transferring a patient from a standing position to a seated position. With the zipper entrance running vertically, a patient may step close to the hyperbaric chamber with the assistance of a walker or some other support. The patient may then step one foot into the chamber, followed by the other; a simple rotation to a seated position is all that follows. Having a helper inside the chamber to assist with balance and direction; makes this chamber the preferred choice for working with patients with compromised mobility seeking mild hyperbarics.
Unassisted Treatment
The Grand Dive and the Vertical Grand Dive are by far the easiest portable hyperbaric chambers on the market to operate without the assistance of another person. As the Vertical Grand Dive is approximately 6’ tall, allowing individuals to sit up and in some cases stand; securing and unsecuring the zippers at the beginning and end of the hyperbaric treatment session requires no great feat of strength or flexibility. In contrary, in the smaller horizontal models (Dive 28” and Shallow Dive 23”), unless a person is of small enough stature to sit up, one must reach towards their ankles to fasten the farthest buckle and to reach the starting point of the zipper. Obviously, the larger the person and the smaller the chamber, the more difficult this scenario becomes.
Clinical Considerations
This chamber is second only to the Grand Dive as our number one recommendation for those considering usage within a clinic; although, dependent on the makeup of your patient population, it could be our number one recommendation for integrating hyperbarics. It will accommodate a large variety of patients and allows single persons to comfortably relax in a seated position. In addition, the larger size helps combat the fear of claustrophobia in individuals where this is a real concern. A smaller chamber such as the 28” Dive portable hyperbaric chamber limits the treatment of patients requiring a guardian. Adding the unique features of this model to those of the Grand Dive (two adults and ability to lay down), provides comfort and accessibility incomparable from any other two portable hyperbaric chambers on the market. Although this chamber and the horizontal Grand Dive are of considerable investment over the 28” x 7’ Dive model, consider the lost revenue from the above populations. Over time, the Grand Dive and/or Vertical Grand Dive will have been far superior investments. Additional Note: Due to the solid base of this chamber requiring expensive freight charges; the added costs to a non-local shipping program preclude this unit from being a sound investment as a rental chamber.
